April was a good month for our little family. We settled into a new routine now that Jono is fully self employed, and as a result we managed to spend more time together than we're used to. Granted, it's not the same as when we both had our weekends totally free, but the odd unexpected afternoon together has really felt like a special mid-week treat.
We've mainly spent our time together in the garden, trying to sort it out and get it ready for the summer. We've sewn more grass, as ours tends to die in the winter, and planted some gorgeous flowers, as well as lots of vegetables, which I'm hoping will be more successful than last year's attempt. I've also been growing lots of herbs and vegetables from seeds on our kitchen windowsill, and seeing them sprout has been really exciting! I've actually enjoyed it so much that I'm considering putting our names down for an allotment, although Jono needs a bit more convincing!
Of all the weekends this month, Easter weekend was particularly lovely, as we managed to spend 3 full days together for the first time in what feels like forever! We went out to lunch at a new restaurant where we live on Good Friday, which was absolutely delicious. On Easter Sunday we did a little egg hunt for Zach, which he absolutely loved, before we drove up to the coast, where we lasted a grand total of 10 minutes on the beach as it was so cold and windy! We then spent Easter Monday with Jono's parents, visiting a railway museum which was heaven for our train obsessed little boy.
Zach has really grown up this month, and we've noticed a big change in both his speech and his behaviour, although if we could have less tantrums that would be brilliant, but I guess that is wishful thinking with a two year old! For the most part he's really fun to be around, and we've been enjoying all our little conversations with him; it is amazing that we're starting to know what goes on inside his little head! He's still hard work when it comes to bed time, but for the past week or so things have gone a little smoother, so I hope it's just a phase that we will have to get through!
Finally I just want to mention that I am feeling so much happier, after being so miserable for the first few months of this year! I think that the weather has a huge impact on how I'm feeling, and these brighter and sunnier days have really made a huge difference for me. I've also been really trying to slow down, and focus on enjoying the little things, as I was finding myself constantly on my phone, scrolling through my time line, rather than really being present in there here and now. It's early days, but I'm feeling much happier and calmer, and more able to get things done, so long may it continue!
