{The Ordinary Moments} #8 - Taylor The Swift

Sunday, May 17, 2015

Our car is slowly but surely giving up on us - she is very old and although she works great she's clocked up a lot of miles and parts are slowly breaking in her old age. We decided that it was time to upgrade and get ourselves and new car so this week has involved a couple of trips to car dealerships and yesterday we decided on a beautiful white Suzuki Swift who I've named Taylor - get it? ;)

We took Zach with us on our car shopping adventures and I was a bit worried about it because it meant that he would be in the car for long periods of time. I thought that he'd get bored and annoyed at being couped up the whole time in his car seat. But actually he slept for most of the time in the car and the time spend at the dealership was the break he needed to stretch.

Saying this, it wasn't all smooth sailing. This week I have changed not one, not two but three poopy nappies on the backseat of the car: And one of them was a full on poo explosion. Of course I hadn't packed a change of clothes so that made it all the more interesting. I think I deserve an award for all of my back seat poo changes - our boy definitely chooses his moments!

We ended up buying the car from London on Saturday after a drive to Wembley. We may or may not have headed to IKEA for meatballs before even looking at cars because we are massive IKEA fans. We also stopped off at a Tesco Extra to pick up some baby wipes (if you haven't noticed by now I'm very unorganised and had successfully forgotten to pack some for our day out despite brining my Mary Poppins style changing bag). Now this may not interest other people but I love a good Tesco Extra and the one in Wembley was like no other - it had a Nandos in it. Basically I wanted to move in. I think this paragraph has highlighted my consumerist ways - I promise I do like things other than shops!

So then we headed to the car dealerships. We went to see the car which was our 'favourite' first. We drove round and round on a run down industrial estate and eventually found the place. I didn't like it at all and chose to stay in the car with Zach. Jono and our friend Daniel headed in and came back pretty quickly. The dealer had sold the car yesterday but neglected to tell us this on the phone - probably because he was totally off his face on heroin which he was doing in the dealership... Seriously.

So it was on to the next place and thankfully this one was not a drug den. They brought out our car and I fell in love straight away. To be honest it was just because she is white. I know nothing about cars and I am yet to pass my driving test (it is in 5 weeks time so watch this space!) and all I care about is what it looks like! But Jono drive her and tested everything and in the end I think we got a pretty good deal and I'm so excited to drive her around as soon as I can!

How was your week?

  3. Haha, I've had to do many back seat nappy changes but usually on long motorway journeys, where there's been traffic and I can't bare the stench to wait for the next services haha. I love your choice and it is a great little car for your first one as a new driver. Great #ordinarymoments
