My Dad

Friday, June 19, 2015

Growing up, my dad was my hero. Of course I loved my mum to pieces, but I was always a daddy's girl, and in my eyes he could do no wrong. My parents separated when I was 9, and in some ways it made my relationship with my dad stronger because it meant that the time we spent together was even more special because it was limited. Fast forward to becoming an adult, and at 18 I moved in with my dad for a year before university and we were thick as thieves. I think of my dad more as a friend than as a parent, because that's the type of relationship we have. And I wouldn't change it for the world.

My dad may not have lived with me for my secondary school years, but he was always there for me when I needed him. A shoulder to cry on when I had fought with my mum, or when I found myself hating all boys because they were just so confusing back then. I feel very lucky to have had such a great relationship with my dad throughout my life, and even now we're still so close. We have so many jokes that no one else would get, and dad, "that gum you like is going to come back into style".

I just wanted to say a massive thank you dad, for everything you've done for me. The help you've given me over the years (including helping me edit my dissertation!) and the support you continue to give me. Happy Father's Day for Sunday daddy, you're the greatest father in the entire multiverse of space and time, and you're an awesome Grandad too!
