5 Things I've Thought During The Heatwave

09:15

This week has been hot. I don't think I really need to point that out because you know it, and I know it. To be honest, I'm not really a summer person and I don't really like hot weather - my reasoning being that there's only so many layers you can take off, but when it's cold you can put endless ones on. Summer with a baby is a whole new thing to me, so here's what's been going through my head:

1. How many ice creams are too many ice creams? It's just me and Zach all day so no one will know how many I eat, which is a serious problem for me. Is more than one a day okay? It is really hot and they are nice and cold.

2. If it's cooler in the house than outside it must be okay to stay in and watch Vampire Diaries all day. I mean, its too hot to do housework during nap time. The heat is exhausting, and our leather sofas are nice and cool.

3. Sun cream smells so good but why must it stain my pushchair?! It is the iconic smell of summer, and a baby essential. But it is also a nightmare to apply on a wriggly Zach, and my beautiful pushchair is now covered in white streaks! Damn you factor 50.

4. How many layers should Zach be wearing right now? Deciding how many layers to dress a baby in is far more confusing than I thought it would be. I wish he could just tell me how hot he felt so I would know!

5. I can't enjoy my lovely sunny garden because my baby will burn in about 5 seconds of being in the sun. We've just grown a beautiful lawn to play on but the sun shines directly on it and Zach is a baby, pale and ginger. Ginger babies and sun do not go together.

Now I'm off to blow up our new paddling pool and find somewhere in the shade to put it!
Have you been enjoying the weather?

  1. I've thought the same, this sticky yucky heat is not fun. We can only use the garden in the morning or late at night because it catches sun ALL DAY (a point that sold the house for us). Our black buggy is smeared with a ton of white suncream. It's my own fault I always keep popping it on the children whilst they're in it. At least the sun makes us feel happy though right?

  2. I've kind of enjoyed it! Although, if it was actually the Summer holidays for the girls I would of enjoyed it more, seeing I am doing 3 school runs a day! Walking 3+miles a day in the hot weather isn't very nice!

  3. I love summer and the warmth haha I live in Arizona for 18months and that was TOO HOT! I learnt there though to freeze bottles of water over night and then during the day take them out so that they would melt all day and we would always have ice cold water to drink - better option to staying cool than scoffing ice creams haha though not as tasty of course!

My babies always just wore a vest and maybe shorts if it was hot... x

  4. It's crazy how good suncream smells! It must be the emotional association with sunshine.
