5 Things maternity leave

October has marked the end of my maternity leave and seen me becoming a working mama. Although I had a total of nine months at home it feels like it's rushed by in a blur. I've really enjoyed having that time with my little boy, and I thought I would share the things that I loved the most about maternity leave:

1. Time to adjust. Becoming a parent for the first time is a massive change, and I really appreciated having the time to get to know Zach properly. It allowed us to form routines and settle into being a family of three.

2. 1 on 1 time. Although I love it when we get to spend time together as a family I have really enjoyed spending a lot of time just Zach and I over the past eight months. He's my little best friend who I got to share my day with every day. I feel as though it allowed us to develop a deep bond, and I am so grateful for all that time we had together.

3. Didn't miss any 'firsts'. Because I was with Zach almost every day I was there when he hit all of his milestones. I felt so lucky to be there when he smiled for the first time, rolled over for the first time and when he had his first taste of solids! Now I'm back at work there will be times when I won't be there to see 'firsts' anymore.

4. Seeing more of family and friends. Being on maternity leave meant that I was able to make plans on any day of the week which was really great. During the week I was able to see a lot of my friends who don't work Monday-Friday, as well as my mum who is self employed. Finding time to see everyone is going to be a lot harder now I'm back at work.

5. Starting this blog. Especially in the early days when Zach spent most of the day asleep I found myself having a bit of spare time and wanting to do something productive with it (other than cleaning because bleugh!) I decided to start this blog, and I'm so glad I've kept up with it as it serves as an online diary of our life as a family of three.

What did you love about maternity leave?

  1. My mummy loved her maternity leave, but was ready to go back to work! She also enjoyed the 1-1 time and the 'sleep when the baby sleeps' days. Zzzz some days she didn't get out of her PJs x #TheList

  2. I am so grateful for the maternity leave we get in this country, to have to go back when the baby is really small like they do in the US sounds unbearable. I loved just the time to learn to be a mother, to bound, to cuddle, to see friends more and going to baby classes :)

  3. I loved all those things too! The best thing for me about maternity leave was just being able to relax - stay in my PJs if I wanted to, have afternoon naps and just take my time. Lovely post x

    1. I don't think I took enough advantage of relaxing and pj days - if we had another baby I'd definitely spend more time relaxing (although is that possible when you already have a child?!) xx

  5. Maternity leave is such a special time, I'm grateful every day that I get to stay home with my little boy and enjoy the seasons changing while he grows up. I intended to go back to work after 4 months but decided at the last minute that neither of us were ready. Now we're coming up to 1 year and it's time to decide whether to try for more or return to work. My favourite things about maternity leave are afternoon naps; time for baking, blogging and other hobbies; spending time with baby as his little personality emerges. Hope you've had a smooth return to work! #TheList

    1. It is so lovely to experience all the changes with your baby as the year goes by isn't it? As much as I enjoyed maternity leave, I'm really enjoying being back at work - a lot more than I thought I would! xx
