REVIEW | A Night At Travelodge Cambridge Newmarket Road

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to have the chance to review a room at the Travelodge on Newmarket Road in Cambridge. I was headed out to a blogging event, and was so grateful to avoid the usual rush to catch the last train home. It made my evening a breeze as I knew I had somewhere lovely to rest my head for the night, and a big breakfast to help ease my inevitable hangover in the morning.

Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the reception staff before being given our key card and directions to our room. We were offered a map of the local area, but as I am originally from Cambridge this was not needed as I know my way around. We found our room easily thanks to the helpful signs around the building, and opened the door to a room much larger than we had expected. We were in a family room which had plenty of space - there was a king size bed as well as two singles which really impressed me.

The room was clean and practical - of course it was not the absolute height of luxury, but then that's not its purpose. There was plenty of tea and coffee, as well as an iron, ironing board and hair dryer laid out ready for use. It was the little touches like these which really made us feel at home and made our stay that little bit nicer.

The bathroom had a bath with a shower above it, and was absolutely spotless. Towels, shower gel and shampoo are provided, which is great if you are travelling light. The big mirror above the sink was perfect to use when getting ready for our evening out, and the shower was powerful which is a must in the morning. One thing that was missing was a lock, which I assume was not included due to it being a family room, but as we were sharing the room as friends would have been a nice feature.

After a good sleep in the comfortable beds we headed down to breakfast. This is my favourite part of staying in a hotel, and I go to town on the buffet. They had a vast selection from cooked breakfast to continental, and I had a bit from everything! It was all fresh, and I was happy to see a lot of healthier options such as yogurt, fruit and granola as well as the other tasty treats you would expect. Everything tasted delicious, and I just wish I'd had a bit more!

Overall, my night at Travelodge was great. It met my expectations and more, and I will definitely be staying with them again in the future. The location was perfect as it is not far from the city centre which is ideal for visitors looking to stay somewhere fairly central but that won't break the bank. Everything was clean, the staff were friendly, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food! Thank you Travelodge!
