5 Things I Love About Blogging

Friday, March 18, 2016

Today marks one year since I began blogging properly and sharing my life with the world. The first post I wrote as a mother was Zach’s birth story as I thought that was a good place to start, and it has snowballed from there. I honestly didn’t think I would still be writing my blog today but I am so glad that I am. Blogging has brought so much happiness to my life, so I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to share the things I love most about it.

Learning New Skills

From HTML to Klout, and everything in between, I have learnt so much from producing my little corner of the internet. There is a lot more to blogging than I thought as it is not as easy as just writing a post and publishing it. There is still so many things I want to learn, and this year I plan to focus on my photography as I would love to improve the quality of my photos.

A Place to be Creative

The whole process of producing my blog kept my brain working during my maternity leave and gave me somewhere to be creative which was something I really needed. I’ve really enjoyed trying out new things – like trying to put together a good flatlay, attempting to find my Instagram ‘theme’ and photographing food for recipe posts and this is something I hope to work on going forward.

Storing Memories

One of the best bits about blogging is that it serves as a diary. I love that I am able to go back over the first year of Zach’s life and see what we were up to. There are so many little things that I have recorded here that I would have forgotten otherwise. I especially love that we take part in the ‘Me and Mine’ project where we take a family portrait each month because I love seeing how we’ve changed over time.

Working With Brands

This is something I am still fairly new to, but I feel so lucky to have worked with several brands and even to have made a little bit of money from doing something I love. It is so exciting to connect with brands you love and to work together, and I hope to do more of this in the future.

Making New Friends

When you become a blogger you suddenly find yourself in a community filled with like-minded people. I have found other bloggers to be so kind and supportive, and have even made some friends who I speak to most days. At the beginning of the year I headed to my first blogging event, CBM16, which was amazing as it meant I got to meet so many other bloggers. I now can’t wait to attend both Blogcamp and Brit Mums Live to meet more people – please let me know if you are going to either!
