A Weekend In London For #BML16

Tuesday, June 28, 2016

This weekend I left Zach at home with Jono and headed to London for #BML16. I was really excited and couldn’t wait to see everyone, although I was a little bit emotional considering the morning’s Brexit news. I had arranged to stay with the blogging girls I speak to every single day; Stacie from Parker and Me, Faye from Tales and Tea, Ami from My Mummy Spam and Jade from Raising the Rings, and I was so ready to spend some proper time with them.

We spent Friday evening socialising, and headed to the official ‘Fringe’ party in Camden to start the night. Aside from the wine, I wouldn’t really describe the event as a party, but I did have a great time as we met up with lots of other bloggers. It was lovely chatting to people I hadn’t met before as well as catch up with those I had (including the lovely Emma from Me, The Man & The Kids). Once it was over we hot footed it back to Shoreditch and met up with a huge group at All Bar One and stayed out chatting and drinking until it was way past out bed time.

On Saturday morning we rose bright and early (and slightly hungover) and headed to The Brewery where #BML16 was held. It was a weird feeling to walk into a venue filled with people you had never met before, but yet so many of whom you already recognised. Throughout the day I met so many people whose blogs I have read and loved over the past couple of years (too many to list!). The highlight for me was briefly meeting Alex from Bump to Baby - her blog was one of the first I ever read, and she is just the loveliest and most genuine person - I hope to meet her again an talk to her for longer!

The day was absolutely jam packed full of talks, sessions and brands - my personal favourite moments were seeing Tim from Slouching Towards Thatcham singing a parody song on stage and hearing the wonderful Cherry Healey talk openly and honestly about everything from sex to being on Masterchef.

I can't say that I enjoyed everything about the day though. I thought a lot of the brands who were there weren't particularly appropriate, a couple of the sessions I attended were not as helpful as I had thought they would be and I found it hard to socialise with people who were in their cliques. However, for me, meeting up with bloggers I know and love far outweighed any negative aspects.

Once the conference had ended I headed out to Jamie’s Fifteen for dinner with some of the girls, and it was absolutely amazing. The staff there were so passionate and the food was out of this world (especially the dessert!!), I would definitely recommend going - they even had a gin bible! We ended the night chatting in bed in our jim jams as sadly all the bars closed at midnight despite it being Saturday night in central London.

After a rude awakening at 5am thanks to a fire alarm in our Travelodge it was time to head home and back to reality. I can say in all honesty that I had an absolutely brilliant weekend. I met some of the most wonderful people who I hope I will be friends with for a long time (holla Hannah from Hi Baby, Leanne from A Slice of my Life Wales and Kerry from All About a Mini Norris, Martyn from Inside Martyn's Thoughts). It feels so great to be surrounded with so many like minded people, and for it not to be rude to sit on your phone scrolling through social media! On that note, I'll leave you with this:

  7. Popping in somewhat belatedly. It seems like so long ago now, doesn't it? Was lovely to have a chance to chat on the Friday night before the mania of the Saturday. And I still haven't lived down my 'performance', have I? :-)
