Picture Books for Autumn18:47
I absolutely love reading, and Zach has also begun to really enjoy snuggling up in bed with me with a big collection of books for us to read together. He has quite the little library, and we've recently added some shelves in his bed room so that we can put his books out on display. I love all things seasonal, and that includes books, so I thought I would share our favourite picture books for Autumn:
A Bit Lost - it's the colours in this book that make me think of Autumn. The story follows a young owl who falls out of his nest. He spend the rest of the story searching for mummy owl, and he meets a lot of other creatures along the way. The story itself isn't particularly original, but it is the illustrations which make it special - just gorgeous.
The Nutty Nut Chase - a hilarious story of competition between a group of animals for a nut. Their race doesn't quite go to plan, but they learn that by helping others everyone benefits. Whilst this story is aimed at children older than Zach, I like to read it to him while his is drinking his milk before bed, and take the time to teach him the different animals in the story.
Guess How Much I Love You in the Autumn - we actually don't own the original 'Guess How Much I Love You' yet, but I spotted that there are seasonal versions, so picked this one up for Zach Autumn collection. The story is sweet, and the illustrations are beautiful. I plan to buy the other seasons throughout the year.
Autumn - this book is lovely, and talks through things that children can do in the autumn months, such as picking apples, seasonal baking and doing autumnal arts and crafts. I'm not sure what it is about this book, but Zach absolutely loves reading it. There is one for each season, and they're a great way of teaching children about the changes that happen throughout the year.
That's not my Hedgehog... - we are huge fans of the 'That's not my..." books, and this one is no exception. If there's something that Zach loves, it's a touchy feely book, and this one ticks all the boxes. Our favourite thing to do at the moment with all of the "That's not my..." books is search for the mouse on each page!
The Gruffalo - a modern day classic, this woodland tale is perfect for the colder months. We love reading this - you can go to town with the animal voices, there's lots of animals for Zach to find and point at, and the rhyming makings it a joy to read aloud.
1 2 3 A Walk in the Countryside - this is actually produced by the National Trust, and is a counting book with lots of gorgeous illustrations. We love to spend time in the great outdoors, so this book is perfect as it is all about nature . Aside from learning numbers you can also teach young children about the different animals included in the book. I would definitely recommend this one!
That's not my Squirrel... - finally another "That's not my..." book, this one is also great for autumn as it is about squirrels. These books are so great for learning about animals, as well as different parts of the body/parts of animals and they are so fun to read, with different textures for a sensory experience. They're just brilliant.
