Goals for 2018

We're here again - the start of a new year!

(my favourite photo from 2017!)

Happy 2018, I hope you had a good time celebrating last night - whether it was a big night out, a cosy night in, or even if you decided to just go to bed like normal. We spent the evening with friends, but during the day I took the time to sit down and reflect on the year gone by, and put together some goals for the year ahead.

Last year I set myself 5 goals; to improve my photography, curb my spending, focus on my health, learn more German and be cleaner and tidier.

After buying a new camera in January I like to think that my photography has improved somewhat, and I really enjoy capturing our lives. Although I've been a bit absent from both my blog and social media this year, what I have shared I've loved, especially on my Instagram. Hopefully in 2018 I will improve further, and I'd love to do a photography course if at all possible.

Spending wise, not that much has changed, and there is definitely still room for improvement. We've started saving towards our wedding, but we're going to have to up our game this year in order to afford the day we (I) want to have. I've also got more on my credit card than I want to have, so I'm planning to pay a big chunk off.

I did spend a good 6 months of the year focusing on my health. I lost almost two stone, was more active and ate far better than I have for years. I did let it slip towards the end of summer, and now, after autumn and Christmas comfort eating I've gained back a lot of the weight I had lost. I'm keen to get back on track though, so I'll be back at Slimming World next week, and aiming to make better habits so I don't fall off the wagon so badly again.

I didn't learn anymore German, and I'm not sure I will this year either - but it is always going to be one on my list. One day!

Finally, I definitely wasn't any cleaner and tidier, and this is still a huge one for me. I would love to live in a pristine home, but ours will never look like that. I think I need to stop trying to focus on 'doing it all' and just try and create better habits. Or failing that, convince Jono that we need a cleaner.

This year I only have two big areas I want to work on, and they're both carried over from last year - health and finances. These are the two things I really want to change, and I think they would both have a huge impact on my life.

I really want to hit my goal weight this year, find a way to maintain it, and also to do more exercise. After doing really well for six months last year I know I can do it, it's just a case of getting back into the swing of things and finding a way to change my lifestyle rather than seeing it as a temporary measure. Once Zach starts preschool later this month I will have a few hours to myself each week, so I'm thinking about joining the gym and using that time to work on my fitness. But I also want to use it to blog, and also to clean the house - so little time, so much to do!

Financially I need to find a way to earn more - perhaps this little blog of mine will be the key? Time will tell on that one I guess. I also need to stop spending so much on silly little things, drinks from Starbucks and meals out. I think the plan for this year will be to live a bit less, so that the year after we can live to the max.

Aside from working towards my goals, 2018 is set to be another good year for our little family, but of course, anything could happen. I'm hoping to feel happier and more settled than I have this year, planning to spend more time in the garden growing beautiful flowers, and I'm also setting myself a feminist reading challenge in preparation for the gender studies masters I'm thinking about pursuing.

We've got a wedding to plan, and then a future to decide on - another baby? a new house? further education? Really we need to find a way to do it all!

What have you got planned for the year ahead? I'd love to know - please tell me in the comments below!

  1. YAY! I love that you're blogging again and with such a positive post. It sounds like you had a great year last year and your photos ARE beautiful. I cannot wait to see what 2018 holds for you all. Plus, I'm back on a healthy eating plan AND going to the gym three times a week from next week. We can motivate each other! x

  2. I can help you with the German speaking goal if you want as a native speaking German. :)
I haven't set myself any goals this year yet but I did think about it doing something about my stomach. I don't have to lose any weight but the stomach annoyed me.
Also I am going to take on less reviews on my blog this year.
